SUMMARY:Film exhibition ‘The Holocaust and the optics of justice’. Screening of ‘Mr. Kaplan’
DESCRIPTION:Casa de América and Centro Sefarad-Israel are organizing this film exhibition as part of Holocaust Remembrance Month.\nWith the end of World War II, many courts and jurists asked how to judge a crime of such dimensions never before seen in the history of mankind as the Holocaust. The Nuremberg trials became the paradigm for the judicial treatment of the Shoah, but there was more. And all of them made societies of different countries and cultures reflect on the atrocities that were committed especially against the Jewish people.\nFor this reason, the film exhibition that Casa de América and Centro Sefarad-Israel have been organizing for more than five years in connection with Holocaust Remembrance Month will be dedicated in this edition to the perspective of justice in the face of the Shoah. From different points of view and under the title “The Holocaust and the optics of justice”, three films will offer different approaches to the post-World War II legal proceedings. \nThe first of the films will be “Mr. Kaplan”, which will be followed by a discussion with its director Álvaro Brechner.\nMr. KaplanYear: 2000Director: Álvaro BrechnerScript: Álvaro Brechner\nLength: 98 minutes\nSynopsis: After World War II (1939-1945), the old Jew Jacobo Kaplan fled to South America. Dissatisfied with his new rabbi, his community, his family and his life, and fearing that he would die and not be remembered, at almost 80 years of age, he decides, with the help of a retired policeman, to turn his life around. He then embarks on a singular adventure: to capture an old German restaurant owner, because he is convinced that he is a former Nazi officer. His goal is to take it to Israel. This will help to restore pride and dignity to the Jewish community.\nReparto: Héctor Noguera, Néstor Guzzini, Rolf Becker, Nidia Telles, Nuria Fló, Leonor Svarcas, Gustavo Saffores, Hugo Piccinini, César Jourdan, Jorge Bolani, Augusto Mazzarelli, Adela Dubrá, Roberto Suárez, Anouk Ogueta.\nThis activity is part of Holocaust Remembrance Month, whose activities can be shared on social networks with the hashtag #HolocaustMemorialMonth.\nFree admission. Seating capacity 70 seats.Numbered tickets will be distributed at the box office of the Information Point (Plaza de Cibeles s/n) of Casa de América, one hour before the beginning of the activity.\n
